  3. As u will see when u use DFB, it is a very simple & user friendly
  4. file system, while being very powerful. This help file is for the users
  5. of a MAX's bbs system with DFB installed, to point out everything DFB has
  6. to offer, just incase you miss it....
  7.  
  8. First off we'll identify whats on the DFB screen...

  13. FILENAME - States the name of the file (DuH!) If the name is longer than 15
  14.            characters, the sideways arrow keys can be used to scroll through
  15.            the filename, while the cursor is over that file...

  20. the letters next to the filename mean the following
  21.  
  22.  "D" DELETED FILE  - obviously file has been deleted, but still shows up
  23.                      until sysop optimises file base...
  24.  "L" LOCKED FILE   - file is locked so bbs will not auto-delete when it
  25.                      becomes old....
  26.  "N" NEW FILE      - some sysops like to check files b4 they become 
  27.                      available for everyone to download. so if the 
  28.                      sysop wishes u may not be able to download a "new"
  29.                      file until he/she makes the file accessible....
  30.  "O" OFFLINE FILE  - file has been deleted from HD, but sysop has it 
  31.                      backed-up somewhere. leave him/her mail if u want it
  32.  "+" FREE DOWNLOAD - file can be downloaded & no byte/file credits will
  33.                      be taken....

  58. The command line in DFB is the most important feature, it looks like...

  62. Direction files are being listed in

  64. Arrows to select - use the up & down cursor keys to move the curosr over 
  65.                    the files...

  67. Up               - Upload a file...
  68.  
  69. Down             - Download files...
  70.  
  71. Reverse          - a feature unique to DFB! If u accidentilly go past a file
  72.                    you wanted to mark & download, just reverse the direction
  73.                    of the file listing & go back to it!
  74.                    (note: once in reverse mode, reverse again to get back to
  75.                           original listing direction)

  77. Stop             - Stop listing files & go back to the DFB listing menu...

  79. <RETURN>         - To continue on down with the file listing...

  81. "I" (not shown)  - Shows how many Uploads/Downloads, your ratio &
  82.                    remaining credits

  84. "E" (not shown)  - Edit upload signature

  86. Once the cursor is moved up, the command line changes to this...

  88. <RETURN> to tag/untag,  D)own V)iew R)everse S)top
  89.  
  90. <RETURN>         - marks the file you are currently over, ready to download
  91.  
  92. Down             - Download...
  93.  
  94. View             - Will allow you to view....
  95.                    1) Contents of a Lha archive
  96.                    2) The complete file if it is a text
  97.                    3) General info on a .DMS file
  98.                    4) Contents of a .zip archive
  99.                    (NB: serves no function for .arj & .EXE files)

  101. Reverse & stop   - serve the same function as previously...

  105. Downloading....

  107. The best method is simply to mark your files & press "D" at which time 
  108. you will be asked...

  110. Do you want to download your maked files (A)bort) [y] ?

  112. Where your simply press "Y", if there are any further files you wish to 
  113. download you can just type in the file name at the next prompt, if not,
  114. simply press return again.
  115. Now you will be presented with...

  117. D)ownload, L)og off after download, A)bort [d] -->
  118.  
  119. Download                  - continue with your download
  120.  
  121. Log off after download    - Log off once your downloads have been completed
  122.                             (NB: a 10 second period is given at the completion
  123.                                  of downloads to re-enter the bbs, incase you
  124.                                  change your mind....                         )

  126. Abort                     - abort the download sequence...

  132. How annoying is it when u mark a whole heap of files & then for some reason
  133. lose carrier, or run out of time with only half of em downloaded??
  134. TOTALLY ANNOYING!!!

  136. Not anymore with DFB... DFB has a "marked files buffer" where files you've
  137. marked but for some reason have not downloaded yet are memorised for you,
  138. so the next time you log-on, they'll be there waiting for u, already marked!!!

  144. After pressing "U" from the command line, you will be presented with..

  148. After uploading the file, the file_id.diz will be searched for..
  149. if found it will be used.

  151. If no diz is found, type in the description u want & type Q & retrun
  152. on a blank line when finished...
